European Award for Logistics Excellence 2008

Famosa wins the European Award for Logistics Excellence 2008 in Gothenburg

This prize acknowledges the company’s pan-European operations strategy

Madrid, 20 May, 2008
Famosa, the leading Spanish toy maker and distributor, has won the 2008 European Award for Logistic Excellence. The prize, which is European in scope, certifies the excellence of the company’s operations strategy.

This prize acknowledges Famosa’s strategic operational transformation, executed in record time, right throughout the value chain from product sourcing in Asia to the 51 countries in which it sells its products. To do so, the company implemented new planning systems, struck new sales agreements and relationships with Chinese partners and built a distribution network designed to boost customer service.

From any part of the world, at any time, and using a single internet connection, Famosa, is capable of setting in motion a powerful and complex supply chain, with round the clock, real time knowledge of what is happing in every link of the chain. The most tangible evidence of the project’s success is the reduction in inventories enabled by enhanced product availability and higher profitability.

According to Miguel Rosique, head of operations at Famosa, “this prize, awarded to Famosa by the European Logistics Association, is acknowledgment of an operations strategy that has underpinned the design and launch of a global supply chain”.

Famosa is Spain’s leading toy company, with a presence in more than 51 countries and headquarters in Portugal and the UK. The business plan calls for significant growth, including acquisitions in Spain, international expansion and channel consolidation. Famosa sells 1,500 SKUs across eight of the toy market’s eleven product categories. In addition to battery operated vehicles (market share: 66%), large dolls (25%) and cuddly toys (15%), Famosa develops electronic toys such as sudoku and tetrix. It recently launched 20Q onto the market. Famosa was acquired by Vista mid-2005.
